brandy new

Back in early March, I started my job as a brandy new nurse, and now it’s already the end of April. Crazy! I've been on orientation for several weeks, and I’ve enjoyed my time learning lots and finding my way around the unit. For one, I thank God that I was able to get a job as a new nurse relatively quickly and I’m grateful for where he placed me. The hospital environment is warm and inviting. There’s definitely a sense of community, with tons of volunteers both young and old that help the hospital operate as well as it does. Reality is, working in a hospital is stressful! But seeing grandpas selling the daily news, old ladies in pink coats pushing carts of fun knick-knacks, and harpists that walk around playing music for patients is quite therapeutic and certainly makes those rough days better.

Waking up at 5:30 from mon-fri has been a challenge, especially when I don’t get enough sleep the night before. As long as get a decent amount of z’s, spend some time in prayer, and have coffee in hand in the morning, I feel ready to start the day. On days I don’t get enough sleep...I must confess that I feel pretty cranky! Nevertheless, I know that I’m relied upon to take care of people, so I pray for more grace, prioritize, and try my best to be friendly (as cranky as I might feel!) >_<

A lot has changed from my first day on the unit to now. My first week I did a lot of observing my preceptor and struggled to figure out what to do. Thankfully, my preceptors have been and are wonderful, and I owe my progress to them.

Sorry, I need to head to bed! To be continued. I’m working on managing my time, so forgive me! Praying for a good week! =)

in the meantime

It’s been a rather busy week and I’ve also been valuing sleep more. As a result, I have not updated since last week, but not to worry! I will be updating with a full entry shortly! However, in the meantime... stay tidy! & listen to a sweet cover!

holler.

preface

hello friends!

It’s been several years since having last blogged (good old xanga/myspace). But at last, I’ve come around to give it another shot!

Well, it’s just as awkward as I remember. Fingers on home row, sporadically punching away to transfer heart/mind onto this strange medium. Got a touch of mellow tunes playing in the background to help gather my thoughts... okay, so it’s not all that bad.

Post jog on a lovely saturday morning, a friend and I ended up at a local bakery to catch up over some coffee and pastries. Family, relationships, church, work, health, and social life were some of the topics discussed. Trying to gracefully balance these various elements of life is challenging, and as a result writing tends to end up at the bottom of my to-do list. With that said, we agreed to incorporate blogging back into our lives!

Writing is challenging and time-consuming. But because it calls for a bit of introspection and effort, I do feel a sense of accomplishment and at times even productive! That’s not the main reason why I started this blog, but a nice add-on. So, I hope that this will be a safe space to keep you updated on life, ramble, and share thoughts (I welcome yours too!)

Jane :)
