brandy new

Back in early March, I started my job as a brandy new nurse, and now it’s already the end of April. Crazy! I've been on orientation for several weeks, and I’ve enjoyed my time learning lots and finding my way around the unit. For one, I thank God that I was able to get a job as a new nurse relatively quickly and I’m grateful for where he placed me. The hospital environment is warm and inviting. There’s definitely a sense of community, with tons of volunteers both young and old that help the hospital operate as well as it does. Reality is, working in a hospital is stressful! But seeing grandpas selling the daily news, old ladies in pink coats pushing carts of fun knick-knacks, and harpists that walk around playing music for patients is quite therapeutic and certainly makes those rough days better.

Waking up at 5:30 from mon-fri has been a challenge, especially when I don’t get enough sleep the night before. As long as get a decent amount of z’s, spend some time in prayer, and have coffee in hand in the morning, I feel ready to start the day. On days I don’t get enough sleep...I must confess that I feel pretty cranky! Nevertheless, I know that I’m relied upon to take care of people, so I pray for more grace, prioritize, and try my best to be friendly (as cranky as I might feel!) >_<

A lot has changed from my first day on the unit to now. My first week I did a lot of observing my preceptor and struggled to figure out what to do. Thankfully, my preceptors have been and are wonderful, and I owe my progress to them.

Sorry, I need to head to bed! To be continued. I’m working on managing my time, so forgive me! Praying for a good week! =)
